San Francisco

what's the big deal with the homosexual weddings in San Francisco?  civil disobedience, anyone?

why is that conservatives are condemning the San Francisco officials, but they defend a judge in Alabama for keeping the ten commandments in the courthouse when it was against the law?

remember, when heterosexual couples receive a marriage licence, they also receive over 1,000 rights they didn't have previously.  shouldn't homosexuals be able to enjoy some of those rights?

the first homosexuals to be married in San Fran were two elderly lesbians.  they had been together for 50 years.  if they don't deserve the right be legally married, then i don't know who does.

John Kerry

i must say, i don't think John Kerry is the best candidate for president.  obviously, the rest of the country doesn't agree with me.  with that said, i don't think he's the worst candidate, either.  i think he might have a shot at defeating Bush, but i guess we'll see.  but that's not really what i want to discuss right now...

several days ago, rumors of John Kerry's infidelity surfaced in the media.  it wasn't huge.  i only saw or heard it covered a few times.  except on Rush Limbaugh.  yes, i listen to Rush Limbaugh.

Glenn Beck, the conservative morning talkshow host on 1000 AM mentioned it.  he reported what the story was, reported Kerry's response, and moved on.  he didn't have any more information than the Associated Press, so he decided not to speculate.

CBS, part of the "liberal media" carried the story.  they didn't seem too fired up about it.  maybe it was because there was nothing to the story except that a "friend" of the woman who Kerry had allegedly had an affair with had brought the story to light.  they hadn't found any sort of proof from the actual woman.

here's my problem.  what i heard on Limbaugh's program was that the supposed adulterous partner of Kerry had "fled the country."  She had "fled" to Africa to escape the media frenzy that would explode around her when the story got out.  Rush, God bless him, was OUTRAGED.  he couldn't believe what he had heard.  oh my good god, John Kerry is an adulterer.  but guess what?  he, along with everyone else, didn't have any more info than the Associated Press.

today, we see that the woman has been found.  the media stalked her until they got a statement.  she is out of the country.  she is in Africa.  she did not, however, flee the country.  she is visiting her fiancee's family.  and she denies the affair ever happened or that she ever worked for John Kerry.

now i know that everywhere we look, we've got people digging up dirt.  and it usually ends up nowhere.  Matt Drudge, the same fellow who "uncovered" the Monica Lewinsky scandal, is the one who cooked the John Kerry story up.  and i know, liberals all over the country are saying the Bush went AWOL.  it just makes me sick.  but let's remember something.  someone saying that no one can remember seeing bush report for service during his National Guard duty... that's true.  i'm not saying he didn't serve.  he said he did, and i believe him (no, i don't).  (yes i do).  (ok, maybe i don't).

what i'm saying is, this whole process is just sickening.  that's the only way i can describe it.

I love Donald Rumsfeld

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., and other Democrats on the committee reminded Rumsfeld that in September 2002 he said "we know" where weapons of mass destruction are stored in Iraq.

Explaining that remark, Rumsfeld told the panel that he was referring to suspected weapons sites, but he acknowledged that he had made it sound like he was talking about actual weapons.

The remark "probably turned out not to be what one would have preferred, in retrospect," he said.

Yeah... no shit.

Terrorist Masterminds

Do you own an almanac??? Do you know anyone who does??? Have you seen suspicious characters shopping next to you at Walmart, eyeing the contents of your shopping cart while peering intently at the contents of "The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2004"??? Well, just so that you're extra alert, and very cautious: you, people very close to you, or your friendly fellow shopper could be.... TERRORISTS.

http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2003/12/29/fbi/index.html

Do not be alarmed. This is just a precaution. Actually.... BE VERY ALARMED! EVERYONE YOU KNOW COULD POSSIBLY BE A FUCKING TERRORIST! DID YOU SEE THE NEWS??? THE TERROR ALERT IS HIGH!!! ORANGE, GODDAMMIT!!!

Seriously folks, I'm not sure what to think about this one. I truly do respect law enforcement and their very serious dedication to keep U.S. citizens away from the harm of terrorists. And I hope they're doing everything in their power to keep us safe. But almanacs??? I don't know... I guess this is just one more thing in a whole slew of things that seems aimed at causing some sort of hysteria among people who may or may not have anything to worry about.

I don't know about you, but I'm going to Borders tomorrow. I got a nice little gift certificate. I'm buying an almanac. And if I'm gonna be on a plane anytime soon, I might have to stick in my carry-on luggage. And I guess the only reason is so that I can maintain my fucking sanity.

So if you happen to bump into someone reading an almanac anytime soon, shake their hand. Ask him or her how their day has been. Hell, buy them a cup of coffee if they look like they need it. Perhaps if they are planning to blow the shit out of a crowed supermarket, you might change their mind.

George Bush takes a blow from atop his high horse

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/12/19/MNGHL3QVFA1.DTL

I know that the eloquence of George Bush often gets lost in his blank stares and lack of vocabulary. But one thing about George is that he is a no nonsense, tough as nails kind of guy. He's meaner than a Texas rattlesnake in a pit of .....whatever, I have no Texas idioms, but Bush is obviously a guy who you don't want to mess with. Especially if your the constitution.
See the thing about George Bush is that I don't know if he's ever READ the constitution. I mean lets be honest, most of US have never read the constitution, and why should we? I mean it only gives us the groundwork for how our democracy works. But every now and again you get a curious guy or girl out there who wants to know what it is exactly the constitution says. More people are curious today because George Bush seems to trump it so often.......

Except in the article that I posted a link too. Read it and be happy that for all it's worth the men and women who know the constitution exercised the authority of it over G.W.'s strong arm tactics to diplomacy. Oh and for those who care to read it...

http://www.house.gov/Constitution/Constitution.html

If anyone has an inside link to the president you might want to forward him that last link!

Cheney talks dirty

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&e=3&u=/ap/20031215/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_cheney

the Bush administration has been in support of destroying wildlife refuges and taking public land for private corporate to put money in the pockets of huge corporate energy firms.  now they don't want to allow anyone to see what Cheney talked about with the lobbyists for those corporations.  the administration says that "turning over the documents would mark a dangerous erosion of presidential power."  what?  erosion of power to deceive the american people and profit from unethical business dealings?  Judicial Watch and Sierra Club, two watchdog and environmental protection agencies are attempting to find out exactly what Bush and Cheney have in mind.  the administration is appealing a court decision to release documents pertaining to Cheney's talks with energy industry officials.  does it sound familiar to another court decision (i'm sorry, SUPREME COURT DECISION) that the Bush administration succeeded in appealing?

Saddam Pulls a Win for Bush

well, the our boys overseas found him. he came peacefully. he looked awful. did you see the video? i makes you smile to know that the Iraqis no longer have to live in fear of their former dictator. this is all wonderful. i thought they'd never get him. and they got him just in time.

just in time to distract us from the fact that hundreds of soldiers have been killed there so far. also, just in time to take our minds off the fact that Halliburton (Dick Cheney's pet corporation) has been scamming the American tax-payers.

"A senior Defense Department official says a Pentagon audit has found evidence that a subsidiary of Halliburton may have overcharged the U.S. government by as much as $61 million for fuel deliveries in Iraq. The company, formerly run by Vice President Dick Cheney, admits no wrongdoing."

it also takes our minds off the fact that the U.S. is punishing those countries that opposed the war by not allowing them to participate in Iraq's reconstruction. Saddam's capture is a huge step forward in the stabilization of Iraq. let's hope that Bush uses it to expediate the return of our troops, and not to see how much he can squeeze from the momentary lapse of public criticism. give back to the Iraqis what Sadaam took from them, not to corporations seeking to exploit a war-torn country.

Reconstruction in Iraq

in his latest display of international arrogance, George W. Bush has decided to not allow any countries who have not or will not provide military support the chance to bid on contracts for the reconstruction of Iraq. i find this ridiculous. how serious are we about the rebuilding of a nation we've destroyed? this seems to be just one more chance for Bush to throw his weight around in the international community, basically bribing other countries to come in and save our asses. essentially, he needs them to save his ass, because if we don't get some serious help, more people are going to be pissed off. and what better way to convince others to join in our disgraceful occupation than to let them know they won't be getting a bite of the $18 billion reconstruction-pie.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3308261.stm

thank god the EU is looking into this (it could be against international world trade laws). Paul Wolfowitz says that the US has decided to do this is because of "essential security interests." what interests, exactly? Halliburton's, perhaps?

current mood: embarassed

alright, i'll admit it, i've spent a lot of time criticizing GW, but i haven't every really checked in to see what my own Oklahoma senators are up to up in Washington, D.C. Oklahoma politics just seems to pale in comparison to farce that G-Dub is directing out of the White House. i've had a rude awakening, so to speak. here's an excerpt from an article in the latest Rolling Stone...

HOW OKLAHOMA'S JAMES INHOFE FIGHTS AGAINST NATURE:

"Capitol Hill's worst environmental record may belong to Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla), point man
for the GOP assault on the environment. As chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Inhofe calls global warming a "hoax" and rejects "harsh government mandates" to imporve fuel efficiency. He recently used his power to block limits on greenhouse gases, and he has refused to hold hearings in why the Bush administration lied to rescue-workers after Septembe 11th about the safety of the air at Ground Zero.

Inhofe's rating from the League of Conservation Voters, based on his environment voting record, is a perfect zero. 'He wants to tear down environmental protections,' says David Higby of Environmental Advocates of New York. 'To get a zero, you really have to work at it - to make sure you don't make a good vote by mistake.'"

well, friends, i'm not sure who's running against Inhofe in the next election, but i'll tell you what: i'm going to vote for 'em. also (better late than never) i'm going to start paying closer attention to what the representatives from the my great state are pushing up on Capitol Hill.

lesson learned.

everybody do some research... let's put a stop to the bullshit. i'm getting depressed, and if Bush has his way, my insurance won't cover the Zoloft presciptions.

The Police State

http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,61341,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_1

Here's a link that lets you in on what Congress just passed into law. The FBI now can subpoena and tap and whatever else they need too in order to "investigate terrorist activities." Basically what that means is the court is not needed, which in my opinion, shows little respect for our judicial branch of government and shows lack of faith in how our government works.

Hope everybody feels safer now. Your privacy has just taken a big blow, especially at your places of employment.
